The firm is seeking a Business Development and Marketing Manager specializing in Life Sciences. This role will be crucial in proactively generating and supporting business development and marketing opportunities for select partners within our Life Sciences practice. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the life sciences sector, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices, along with significant business development experience in a legal or related setting. This position will report to the Director of Business Development for the group.
While ideally based in the San Francisco Bay Area or San Diego, we are open to considering candidates from other locations where Wilson Sonsini has offices. The position offers a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director of Business Development to develop and execute strategic plans tailored to the Life Sciences group, in close partnership with group partners and lead associates.
- Proactively research and identify growth-stage life sciences companies for client targeting initiatives and pipeline development, as well as opportunities to enhance existing client relationships.
- Prepare research materials and presentation documents for attorneys’ pitches, events, client meetings, and other business development activities.
- Provide comprehensive business intelligence on the life sciences market, including insights on clients, prospects, competitors, and key individuals.
- Support partners in managing their contacts, ensuring they remain top-of-mind with priority contacts, and track and organize ongoing business development efforts using Salesforce.
- Train and collaborate with partners’ executive assistants to streamline Salesforce tracking processes.
- Draft introductions, reminders, confirmations, and other correspondence as needed.
- Assess and manage relationships with various ecosystem partners, events, organizations, and sponsorships relevant to the life sciences sector.
- Secure speaking engagements at relevant events and coordinate with partners attending to develop quality leads and track ROI.
- Assist the Events team with local event pre-planning and production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; MBA, JD, or equivalent work experience is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in a top-tier law firm, investment bank, venture capital or private equity firm, accounting firm, or similar environment, with a focus on life sciences.
- Advanced skills in market research and analysis, particularly in the life sciences sector.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to understand the needs and expectations of attorneys and clients, as well as how marketing and business development can drive revenue.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working with senior rainmakers in their pursuit of new business.
- Must be a self-starter who thrives on managing multiple high-visibility projects under tight deadlines and remains unflappable under pressure.
The primary location for this job posting is in Palo Alto, but other locations may be listed. The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, professional certifications and licenses, and work location. The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows:
San Francisco and Silicon Valley: $131,750 – $178,250 per year
Austin, Boston, Boulder, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Seattle, and Wilmington: $119,000 – $161,000 per year
Salt Lake City and all other locations: $105,400 – $142,600 per year
The compensation for this position may include a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
