    The Patents and Innovations Group at Wilson Sonsini has an opening for an IP specialist or patent agent with backgrounds in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, computer science/computer engineering, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML), digital health, bioengineering, bio mechanical engineering, physics, or related disciplines. Previous law firm or industry experience is a plus. Responsibilities include working with the firm’s clients in all aspects of patent prosecution, including in evaluating invention disclosures, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting landscape studies including analyzing third party patents. Our patent agents collaborate closely with our patent attorneys, receiving both formal and informal training and mentorship. They have the opportunity to work with attorneys across our offices, serving both US and international clients. This position offers a range of responsibilities related to patent prosecution. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the patent prosecution process, have the ability to generate formal USPTO documents, prepare shell responses, and have experience e-filing applications and generating reporting letters. Candidates should also be familiar with generating reports from CPI and utilizing the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Application Information Retrieval system. Strong organizational skills are required to manage all aspects of the practice. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are a must, along with strong computer skills and superior attention to detail.

    Wilson Sonsini has an immediate opening available for a Patent Transfer Specialist. This individual is responsible for reviewing and processing patent files being transferred out of the firm. This position is also responsible for the termination and closure of patent files. The Patent Transfer Specialist will communicate with working teams, current clients, and new clients regarding outgoing matters, providing docket reports and portfolio lists, draft outgoing transfer letters, forward transfer correspondence to new counsel or clients for transfer-out files. Candidates must have proficiency with U.S. and foreign patent and trademark office websites, ability to research and locate data, and knowledge regarding a calendaring system (CPI) is required.

    The Firm is looking for a full-time Foreign Filing Paralegal to support our San Diego office. As part of a team of Foreign Filing Specialists, you will work closely with attorneys and patent agents to manage all foreign filings for the clients. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Generating cost estimates using Global IP Estimator; Preparing and filing PCT applications; Preparing direct and national phase filings; corresponding with foreign associates regarding formalities and other patent-related issues; Corresponding with clients regarding foreign filing matters; Reviewing and maintaining a personal foreign filing docket; Retrieving, reviewing, and organizing information from public databases.
