Wilson Sonsini’s energy practice is recruiting 3rd to 7th year associates with a transactional focus in the energy sector to join one of the leading clean energy project development practices in the US focused on clean energy innovation and competition.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable and interested in crafting and negotiating key project development contracts such as power purchase agreements, energy service contracts, and other offtake arrangements, working on framework commercial agreements and joint venture transactions, and serving as the go-to associate on project and portfolio acquisitions and related financing support. An ability to use and adapt a range of commercial structures for solar, wind, geothermal, natural gas, battery, nuclear projects, and data center and utility buyers will be valuable.
We are looking for lawyers who want to develop a long-term mastery of structuring and negotiating energy project offtake transactions in a vibrant national, sponsor-focused practice across a variety of electric markets, states, regulatory requirements, technologies, and customer offtakers ranging from utilities buying large-scale renewables to islanded datacenters to behind-the-meter commercial and industrial customers looking to purchase and integrate clean energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency measures.
Wilson Sonsini fields an integrated team of lawyers providing high-value services to innovative, cutting-edge clients in the energy sector. Our work includes project development and commercial transactions, project finance and securitization, corporate finance, and energy regulatory. Our clients range from game-changing nuclear and enhanced geothermal companies proving their technologies, through leading independent power producers acquiring and building gigawatts of new PV and battery projects, to global hyper-scalers pursuing unprecedented regulatory models in support of energy supply for AI. This position will involve daily direct contact with a wide range of clients, Wilson Sonsini partners, and counterparty counsel, so strong communication and project management skills are required. Our ECS team is located in our Boston, DC, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle offices and would welcome attorneys who want to join the team in those locations and advance our mission. We may consider other office locations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range of $260,000 – $420,000, based on year classification.
- Discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
