Energy and Climate Solutions

Changing the World—One Clean Energy Project at a Time

We founded our team on the idea that energy transition is the future—for the planet and for our firm. We built a practice that works toward decarbonizing the economy. Funding green projects and green startups. Assisting companies in fixing damage that they and others created. Fueling innovation in solar, wind, geothermal, and other sustainable energy sources.

We represent the companies that are the future of energy and that are at the forefront of decarbonization technologies. We don’t take on work that runs counter to these goals. And in the cases where we do represent traditional energy companies, we do so to advance their green initiatives and help them embrace the energy transition.

We are growing fast, and we hope you join us.

The planet is on the precipice. We need to transition the economy away from carbon intensive technologies and toward sustainable, renewable energy sources and low carbon technologies as quickly as possible. Our mission is to help speed that transition along.

Our team, with a broad base of legal skills and deal-making creativity, helps clients push the limits and the expectations of the global economy. Our clients come to us for a host of issues:  forming and financing new companies, developing new technologies, implementing  innovative business models, joint venturing, funding and launching projects, and improving efficiencies in the energy, transportation, industrial, manufacturing, water, agriculture, and technology sectors.

Our approach is guided by the firm’s 60-plus-year history of helping innovative, disruptive companies grow. What does this work look like? Here are a few examples:

  • Negotiating novel renewable energy purchase agreements with Fortune 100 corporate purchasers and community choice aggregators.
  • Financing large-scale energy and climate solutions projects around the world.
  • Launching and growing innovative energy companies.
  • Structuring and negotiating first-of-their-kind energy and climate solutions transactions, including complex joint ventures.
  • Pioneering and extending financing structures so that billions of dollars can flow into projects and companies.

Beyond our dedication to the green energy sector—which is unrivaled by any other law firm—our longstanding relationships with strategic investors, private equity and venture capital firms, and major financial institutions allow us to serve as an advisor and conduit to a variety of funding sources.

Our team works from offices  throughout the United States, and we typically recruit one to three associates a year.  Entering associates in our San Francisco office who have an interest in ECS are part of our Launch program.
